NSW Smart and Skilled Funded Training

NSW Smart and Skilled is a reform of the NSW Vocational Education and Training (VET) system. It’s helping people in NSW get the skills they need to find a job and advance their careers. The NSW Smart and Skilled government subsidised training makes gaining your qualification affordable and achievable. The majority of course costs are funded by the NSW Government and you can reserve your Smart and Skilled NSW government funded training place now.

ihBC is an approved Smart and Skilled provider listed on the Smart and Skilled website.

NSW Smart and Skilled flexible eligibility rules makes subsidised training open to eligible NSW residents, regardless of employment status and the qualifications you hold.

Requirements to Access Smart and Skilled funding

Live or Work in NSW (determined by postcode of the usual place of residence or place or work);

OR:

An Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander who does not live or work in NSW but lives in specific defined interstate NSW border areas are eligible for government-subsidised training under Smart and Skilled (as identified in the list set out in the Smart and Skilled Operating Guidelines);

AND BE:

  • An Australian citizen; or
  • An Australian permanent resident; or
  • A humanitarian visa holder; or
  • A New Zealand citizen;

AND:

  • Are aged 16 years or older; and
  • Are no longer in secondary education; and
  • Comply with any relevant program eligibility criteria outlined

Students with disabilities, students who receive Australian Government benefits or allowances and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students may qualify for additional fee exemptions or concessions.

To apply for NSW Smart and Skilled subsidies with National Training Solutions simply contact us and we can send you the forms required along with ‘how to complete’ information.

Some information you will need prior to completing the application forms is a Unique Student Identifier (USI). Everyone undertaking nationally-recognised vocational training in Australia needs a USI. It enables students to access their training records and results. If you don’t have one you can get one easily by going to the www.usi.gov.au

You’ll also need to provide a proof of identity/residency documents such as your passport, citizenship certificate, drivers licence or Medicare card as well as complete a form to consent to the use and disclosure of personal information.

No you don’t need to be employed. Nor does your employer need to know about your enrolment. Smart and Skilled enrolments can be done independently of your employer, and are also available if you are currently unemployed and committed to completing the course to improve your employment prospects.

The NSW Smart and Skilled Consumer Protection Strategy defines the rights and obligations of students and consumers with respect to their training under Smart and Skilled. As a student, you’re covered by Smart and Skilled consumer protection measures. All training providers approved to deliver training under Smart and Skilled are required to have processes to protect consumers and handle complaints.

Under NSW Smart and Skilled provider guidelines we must give each student access to the Smart and Skilled Fee Administration policy before or at the time of enrolment.
